Description
Allspice is native to Central America, Mexico, and the Greater Antilles, but is also cultivated in Jamaica, Guatemala and Honduras. It has a strong spicy taste and aroma that seems to combine the flavors from cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
The Allspice Tree got its name because it confused the British when they discovered it, and they were unable to figure out what spice was growing.
Whole allspice is used when pickling, and when making curry and spiced tea. Ground allspice can also be used for baking cakes, cookies and pies.
